HOUSEWIFE HOEDOWN, Episode 24: OC Reunion, Morocco, and The Gorgas

We had yet another super fun episode of Housewife Hoedown today, thanks mainly to the wonderful material provided by the Real Housewives of Orange County reunion. We spent the bulk of the time talking about that, but we also tended to our ladies of the Tri-State Area, specifically New York City and New Jersey. THE QUAFF: Fun with Veev Açaí Spirit!

IMG_2293.jpg

Recently I received a complimentary bottle of VeeV Açaí Spirit, which meant I had to face one of my biggest fears: berries. For the uninitiated, I have something neurologically wrong wherein I detest the thing that millions — perhaps BILLIONS — of people worldwide love. I speak, of course, of the berry. I hate almost all berries. I’ve come around to cranberries, and I suppose a caper is technically a berry, and I’m okay with those, but all the rest: big problems for me. Huge. It’s not even that I dislike them but can tolerate them in food. I usually want to gag when I smell, or worse, taste berries.

However, I’m determined to have some breakthroughs this year because after all, I do aspire to call myself an unqualified foodie (I mean that in every sense of the term), and I’m not sure I can live up to that title if an entire realm of foods is verboten to me.

And so when the VeeV arrived, I was determined to take on the challenge head on. With the help of Paul Abercrombie’s Organic, Shaken, and Stirred, my friend Sly and I delved into the wide world of AÇAÍ!

Results after the jump… Continue reading “THE QUAFF: Fun with Veev Açaí Spirit!”

B-Side Blog Goes To E3, Geeks Out

IMG_2329.jpg
(that’s me)

The massive video game convention known as E3 came to town last week, and since I am a video game geek at heart, I headed into the thick of it to check out the new games and over-the-top presentations. It was a blast, as usual; although, I didn’t have any exciting star sightings this year (last year I saw Method Man, Redman, and Jason Sudeikis). Well, I did see Zachary Levi from Chuck, who was very handsome in person, but I didn’t take a picture because a) I don’t watch Chuck and b) well, there is no B. I did want to ask him why the hell he sang at the Oscars, but my curiosity wasn’t that intense.

Anyway, after the jump, check out some random pictures of games, geeks, and goings-on. Continue reading “B-Side Blog Goes To E3, Geeks Out”

REAL HOUSEWIVES OF OC REUNION PHOTOCAP: Awful People Yelling At Awful People

HW-31.jpg

For such a lackluster season, The Real Housewives of Orange County certainly ended strongly. Following the crazy season finale, we just had two back-to-back reunion episodes that were totally bonkers. The women were ready to reclaim their title as the bitchiest blondes on Bravo, and thanks to a particularly feisty Tamra, this reunion was full of catty confrontations and questionable allegations. It kind of melted my brain.

REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NYC PHOTOCAP: This Is Not The Plaza Hotel. This Is MOROCCO.

hw-04.jpg

The third and final installment of The Real Housewives of New York City Moroccan “adventure” was everything I could have dreamed of and more. The entire episode was like one amazing, petty disaster — in the best kind of way. It was perhaps the funniest hour and fifteen minutes of all 2011. I actually was left wondering what it would have been like to have watched it all go down in a movie theater with a full crowd of people. I never saw Sex and the City 2, but I imagine RHoNYC would have been an infinitely more enjoyable movie-going experience.

HOUSEWIFE HOEDOWN, Episode 23: Talking About Tamra vs. Jeana, Jill vs. Ramona, Teresa vs. Melissa

Anyone who’s a Real Housewives fan had their DVRs full of crazy, petty drama this past week, and so who better to dissect it all than my friends Matt Whitfield and Sita Young. They joined me on today’s broadcast of Housewife Hoedown, and while we had no phone calls, it may have been for the best because we could not stop talking.

Random Pictures from the Los Angeles Times Rock/Style 2011 Party

IMG_2233.jpg

If you’re looking for pictures of a pool, you’ve come to the right place because that’s what you’re about to see. Last week, I dropped by the Los Angeles Times Rock/Style event at the Roosevelt Hotel hosted by Jay Sean (famous for placing the phrase “Baby are you down, down, down, down, down” in my head at all times). I wasn’t able to stay very long, and as a result, my pictures are all sort of lame — just still shots of scenery basically. Nevertheless, if you’re so inclined, check out the pics are the jump.

NEW MUSIC: Simon Curtis

Shill alert! My friend came out with a new pop/dance album today, and it’s already doing quite nicely. The artist in question is Simon Curtis, and his album is RA. The The New York Post called it “the most exciting, inventive and shiny gem you’ll discover all year,” and MTV deemed it “Buzzworthy,” even posting a whole big profile about Simon on its website.

Check out the full album on iTunes here, and download the latest single here: Flesh — Simon Curtis (not a free download — sorry!).

Good luck, Simon!

REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NJ PHOTOCAP: A Time For Thanks (Except for Sprinkle Cookies)

HW-09.jpg

It may be summer now, but we headed back to Thanksgiving on The Real Housewives of New Jersey last night. The Gorgas and the Giudices each made separate feasts with the former being for family and the latter for friends. There wasn’t much drama in the episode, but this latest installment proved to be highly entertaining in a rather wholesome way. First and foremost, the food looked amazing. Say what you will about these idiot women, but I get the sense they know how to cook — even Teresa and her inability to say “cumin.” Melissa put out a giant spread, and even more impressive was my favorite Kathy, who made a cannoli full of CANNOLIS. I know she’s a meddler, but how could you not love this woman? (especially when she began crying at the idea that her kids could ever be distant like Joe and Teresa).

REAL HOUSEWIVES OF OC PHOTOCAP: I Thought This Was A Classy Party!

HW-43.jpg

“I thought this was a classy party,” Briana said during her mother Vicki’s party on last night’s season finale of Real Housewives of Orange County. In a season, nay, a franchise built on deluded comments, this may have been the most deluded comment of all. “Classy” is a virtue that disappeared from the OC long ago — somewhere between the umpteen sales for leopard print maxi-skirts and annual pilgrimages to Lake Havasu. The fact that Briana could ever think anything even resembling class could exist at her mom’s party was a major laughing point during an already hilarious episode.

As any avid Bravo viewer knows, last night was the much-hyped confrontation between Tamra and Jeana. It involved yelling, paper-throwin (memo to Tamra: fold your cease and desist into a paper airplane next time for better effect), and, of course, wine tossing. But there was oh so much more.
