REAL HOUSEWIVES REUNION PHOTOCAP: Catfight In The Capitol!

10-15-2010-HW-14.jpg

Last week’s part one of the Real Housewives of DC reunion was so bonkers that it restored the faith I had in the series when it first premiered. Truthfully, I was a big fan of the DC cast at first, but midway through the season, the show began to stagnate a touch until the notorious White House party crashing incident that put on the Salahis on the pop cultural radar. Now, with all the ladies hashing it out with Andy Cohen, we finally had a return to the cattiness that marked the early episodes so wonderfully.

And man was it catty. Most of the rage came from Cat herself, who relentlessly attacked Michaele to the point where I almost felt sympathy for the doltish blonde. However, when Michaele said ridiculous things such as how she “secretly” supported the MS Society or was told by the Redskins Cheerleading Alumni Association to lie that she was on the squad, it became clear that this woman might just be totally nuts. It’s actually too bad because with all the attention on her, Cat didn’t get the harsh grilling that she too deserved. Let’s be honest here. Cat is wonderfully entertaining, but the lady is a bitch, and a self-serving one at that too. Ah well. She’ll probably get hers in time.

After the jump, photos from the reunion…

QUICK HIT: Is Whitney Port The Girl With No Gaydar?

whitney-port-boyfriend.jpg

We love young romance, and we also love Whitney Port. That being said, we also love gay speculation, and it seems like all three of these things have been bundled up into an egg roll of intrigue that has left us asking “Is Whitney dating a gay dude?” A gallery of Whit-Whit with her new man, Ben Nemtin, has the gossip wags sharpening their knives. Exhibits A through Z can be found here:

COCKTAIL OF THE WEEK: Spicy Pepino Edition

DSC00180.jpg

For the past week, I’d been trying to corral a friend or two to join me in making another Cocktail of the Week (a feature on this site which I must rename because quite frankly “Cocktail of the Week” is entirely too unoriginal. I’m open to suggestions). Anyway, it turns out my friends all had busy schedules, and by the time Friday rolled around, I feared another week might come and go without an aforementioned “Cocktail of the Week.” Then fate smiled kindly on me.

I had been out at a club, and upon return to my apartment at 1:30 in the morning, I received a text from my dear friend Sly about the gentlemen suitors she had found herself surrounded by. We got to messaging each other, and being that the bar she was at was closing down, I invited her over to my place for a nightcap. She said yes.

Sly was down, and Cocktail of the Week was on. We were indeed about to engage in a spontaneous act of mixology.

And so at two in the morning, Sly and I convened to make a batch of Spicy Pepinos from Paul Abercrombie’s book, Organic, Shaken, & Stirred. Just what is a Spicy Pepino? Well, it involves cucumber, cilantro, jalapeños, and rum. I couldn’t imagine what it would taste like; hence, I had to make it. Pictures after the jump…

30 Rock Live: Did It Work?

30 Rock went live last night on NBC, and the reviews have not been the kindest ever. Personally, I enjoyed the energy of it all, but about midway through, it started to lag a touch. Still, not a total failure. If anything, the experiment showed that single-camera comedies really need to stay single camera (although the clever solution for Liz’s flashbacks was pretty hilarious). That being said, there was something fantastic about watching the actors play off the audience. It almost made me pine for the traditional sitcom. And yes, I’m aware that there are plenty of sitcoms on the air with studio audiences. But they’re never as funny (and let’s face it, most of the laughter comes from a track).

What did you think about the show?

Afternoon Grum

For those who enjoy synth-pop-80s-throwbacks in the style of Justice or Daft Punk, I implore you all to explore Grum. The British DJ not only has a way with catchy hooks but also puts out some highly entertaining videos (like this one I posted back in July). As an added bonus, if you like what you hear and live in Los Angeles, Grum will be playing tonight at Avalon. You might just see me there…

The Best Time Waster Since Porn!

globe.jpg

I don’t know how long Globe Genie has been around for, but my friend Sly sent it to me this week, and I was immediately intrigued. The concept of the site is simple: click the “teleport” button, and via the magic of Google Maps and Street View, you’ll be taken to a random place on the globe. You’ll be able to look around 360 degrees in classic Street View fashion, and should you be inclined, you can also explore the area with a few clicks. The whole thing is kind of amazing, if only for giving you an appreciation of the geographic diversity of this great wide world. You’ll often wind up on a desolate highway, but the real fun is arriving at some ultra remote location or in the center of a quaint town (usually in France or Italy). Of course, like me, you’ll also find yourself in The Bronx or on some McMansion-filled suburb of Phoenix, which is not nearly as fascinating but no less amusing.

Since I’m crazy, I also wanted to see how long it would take before I landed in a spot that I’d actually been to. It took about three days of casual clicking before I landed on the rather mundane destination of the Garden State Parkway in NJ. Anticlimactic.

Anyway, the good news about the site is that if you land somewhere particularly evocative or beautiful or amusing, you can nab a permalink and send it to your friends. After the jump, a few destinations that I enjoyed (with a few thrown in from Sly too).

REAL HOUSEWIVES PREVIEW: Chesty Kim Zolciak Gets Stricken With Modesty

We’re in the middle of Housewives mania: DC aired part one of its craaaaaazy reunion last night, which was followed by the debut of Beverly Hills, and on top of that, we have our veterans in Atlanta still going strong. Mark my words: my head WILL explode shortly. In the meantime, check out these clips from Monday’s episode of RHoATL. Above, prior to her biggest performance, Kim’s undulating breasts threaten to flee the skimpy trappings of her dress, causing panic all around. Then, just when those fleshy bowling balls seem to be under control, her vajayay starts popping out. It’s a dilemma of the highest order!

Meanwhile, after the jump, Phaedra explains what exactly landed her husband Apollo in prison. Her casual dismissal of the charge is sort of hilarious…

Rihanna, As Interpreted By Classical Musicians

Once again, Rihanna has a ubiquitous dance single with “Only Girl (In The World),” and so it was only a matter of time before creative types on the Interwebs decided to do their own covers of it. This one, performed by a classical music group named Aston, is particularly noteworthy as it translates the frenetic synthesizers and beats of the hit song into something a bit more enigmatic. I’m not gonna lie: I dig it.

And if you wish to compare it to the original, the official Rihanna video is after the jump…

Kanye West Nude!

A mere two days ago, I pondered how long we’d have to wait for the next cell phone scandal. Turns out not long at all! The latest celeb to be caught with his junk out on display is none other than Kanye West, who reportedly sent provocative photos of himself to a number of women from who knows where. Now those pics are for sale, which means in no time, we’ll have a whole new set of grainy dong photos to analyze and mock. Fun times!

B-Side Blog Encounters Mahsa From ‘The Apprentice’ and Lives To Tell About It

IMG_0882.jpg

I spent this past weekend in NYC for a wedding, and among the exciting and fascinating things that happened was a chance encounter with Mahsa Saeidi-Azcuy, the reigning pit bull of this season’s Apprentice. Apparently no one is watching the show (thanks NBC for the lack of promotion), but those of you who are taking in its glory know that Mahsa is something of a crazy person in the board room. Get on her bad side, and she’ll railroad you right off the show. She’s kind of scary.

Well, I’m happy to report that in real life Mahsa is actually a total sweetheart. In fact, she bought coffee (and marshmallows — don’t ask) for me and my friend Meeshie. There’s not much that Mahsa could say about the production, but the good news is that she’s not crazy and seems to have a really good sense of humor about her intensity. Oh, and she’s very cute in real life.

That’s really it.

After the jump, some random pics from my cell phone from the weekend. Why? Because I’m bored and I want you all to click through and increase my page views.
