Of Tag Controversies and Chinese Walmarts

IndianJones, quietly awaiting recognition.

About forty-five minutes ago, I posted an item about Chinese Walmarts that had been sent to me by my true friend Neil. No sooner had I posted it than my other friend IndianJones popped up to remind me that the link was in fact “OLD NEWS” on account of it apparently having been a viral hit four months ago.

This, of course, led to my other friend jash firing off an email insisting that I retroactively dole out a tag for IndianJones on the post because IndianJones had actually sent out the very same link to all four of us (among others) back in May. Clearly, tags on this blog are a big deal (jash and IndianJones are in a heated competition to have the most tags — so that jash would insist that his competitor should earn a precious tag was quite noteworthy). Nevertheless, this soon led to an angry email from IndianJones who wrote, “BEN I demand a tag or at least acknowledgement.”

So what to do? WELL. IndianJones, after much thought and deliberation, I am giving you acknowledgment in this post for having sent the link at some point in our lifetimes; however, you do not receive a tag because you were not the reason why I posted the link. It was in fact Neil (true friend) who inspired me to post the link.

Also, the Patriots suck.

QUICK HIT: Fun Finds At Chinese Walmarts!

enhanced-buzz-25886-1274382159-2.jpg

Here’s something fun. Someone compiled a list of sixteen items that are only sold at Chinese Walmarts. Some of the choices (turtles, frogs) may leave you grossed out, but on the flip side, now you’ll have a wonderful conversation starter at the next cocktail party you attend.

Thanks NEIL for the link.

Testing Out The ‘Modern Family’ Chocolate Milk Trick

DSC00021.jpg

Everyone I’ve spoken to has agreed that last week’s Modern Family season premiere was something of a disappointment. In fact, just about the only thing noteworthy from the episode was an amusing sequence involving Manny’s friend recommending adding a pinch of salt to his glass of chocolate milk. This eventually led to a scene with Sofia Vergara trying the trick out herself and confessing to us that it was “delicious.” Clearly this was something I had to try. I mean, really: a chocolate milk taste test? This was hardly an opportunity I’d pass up.

QUICK HIT: Segway Company Owner Killed By SEGWAY

segway-tipped.jpg

This is almost too bizarre to be true. The millionaire owner of the Segway company, James Heselden, died this weekend after accidentally driving his Segway OFF A CLIFF. This does not bode well for security guards at the Grand Canyon.

Further details here.

Thanks jash for the heads up.

HAPPINESS: 30 Rock Embraces ‘Barefoot Contessa’

Last night’s season premiere of 30 Rock made me happy for many different reasons, but none more so than the extended discussion of The Barefoot Contessa. Above, the second of two scenes featuring Ina jokes.

Worlds colliding in the best possible way…

Betty White Joins Troy and Abed on ‘Community’

Some might argue that Betty White is over-exposed, and truth is… they’re right. But I still love the lady, and while last night’s season premiere of Community wasn’t perhaps as amazing as I had hyped it up to be in my head, I did particularly enjoy Betty’s bit with Troy and Abed over the closing credits. If you missed it, take a look at the clip above, and if you want to learn more about last night’s episode, check out this very cool interview where show creator Dan Harmon explains all his pop culture references from the premiere:

SHAMELESS: Hey, I’m On TV!

me-gossip-queens.jpg

Check it out, people. I’m a guest on tonight’s episode of Gossip Queens, which airs on Logo at 7 PM EST! If you don’t get Logo, you may be in luck. The show has been syndicated in select markets around the country such as San Francisco and Baltimore — check your local listings. I talk about the Real Housewives of DC and Atlanta as well as Hulk Hogan’s seashell fiasco. If you don’t know about the latter item, let’s just say it’s bizarre. Anyway, I had a blast taping the show, which is hosted by Loni Love, Berni Pauly, Alec Mapa, and the always lovely Michelle Collins. It was my first time appearing before a live studio audience; so hopefully I wasn’t too awkward (although, “Too Awkward” is kind of my modus operandi).

Anyway, tune in! Also, check me out on Geek Week Live! at Geekweek.com / Justin.tv, also at 7 PM EST. I’ll be talking about the new fall TV season. Rumor has it there may be libations on hand; so I might be all sorts of chatty.

And since I’m shamelessly promoting myself in this post, check out some random pics of me in the audience for this week’s episode of RuPaul’s Drag U. My friend Erin Murphy got drag-ified, and I was lucky enough to see her transformation in person. Quite the exciting experience…

Testing Out The Vons Home Delivery Service

DSC00001.jpg

The good people at Vons supermarket reached out to me recently, and in an effort to promote their online shopping delivery service, they offered me two free gift cards to try the site out. How could I resist free groceries? I happily signed up and promised to review the experience.

After the jump, my Vons odyssey…
