Missed Watson on Jeopardy? Check It Out Here

In case you’re like me and missed the much-hyped Watson appearance on Jeopardy last night, check out the video above which lets you see how it all went down. I believe tonight’s show features the Double and Final Jeopardy rounds, and Wednesday airs all the rounds together as a complete show. But don’t quote me on that.

Nevertheless, it’s pretty cool watching this computer at work, and I couldn’t help letting out a chuckle or two every time Watson messed up. It’s not that the computer erred, it’s just that it erred in such odd ways and with such conviction. It’s like the cat video of computers.

Enjoy!

GRAMMYS PHOTOCAP: Edgy Performances, Safe Wins

22222222kd020_the_53rd_annu.jpg

In case you didn’t hear, The GRAMMYS aired last night, and it was pretty much the same thing as every year: tons of megawatt performances, about four awards, and lots of disappointment. Once again, the old fogies ruled the day, letting pleasant but forgettable tunes like “Need You Now” win out over edgier material over and over and over again. We shouldn’t be surprised — this happens every year — but when nominations are as bold as they were this time around, it gives you hope that maybe — just maybe — the voters might not all be hobbling around with walkers.

Does Cee Lo Green Maintain A Double Standard?

cee_lo_green.jpg

Cee Lo Green is having a Grammy party tonight for his much nominated song “Fuck You,” which as we all remember focuses on a regular guy who gets snubbed by his superficial, gold-digging girl. It’s an anthem for all of us who’ve been made to feel worthless by shallow jerks, which is perhaps why the tune has resonated for so many people all these months.

WELL.

As it happens, a friend of mine snagged an invite to Cee Lo’s party tonight, but when she tried to get a plus-one for me, she was told absolutely not. Why? Because she wasn’t allowed to bring guys. I wouldn’t call this the most surprising revelation in the world — this is the obnoxious way that Los Angeles operates. However, for a party celebrating a song that attacks the VERY people who would impose such asshole rules, I find it a bit hypocritical. HYPOCRITICAL I TELL YOU.

And so to the organizers of Cee Lo’s party, I very heartily say FUCK YOU.

(Oh, and if I get a last minute invite, I take it all back. You’re the best, Cee Lo!!!!!!!!!!!!)

YEA OR NAY: Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’

After oodles of hype this week, Lady Gaga finally “dropped” her new, much-anticipated single, “Born This Way” today, and I gotta say… it makes me cringe.

Don’t get me wrong: it’s catchy. But seriously… the lyrics, while admirable in their anthemic aspirations, are just ham-fisted. It’s like my seventh grade self (the same self who thought Jonathan Livingston Seagull was a delicate musing on life and empowerment) wrote the song. Gone are Gaga’s clever playfulness and cheeky humor. In their place is a silly, borderline preachiness and a musical arrangement that sounds like the opening credits to some failed Logo reality show.

I’m not in the grips of some Lady Gaga backlash nor am I pushing back on the inordinate hype surrounding this single. I think she’s amazingly talented, but she may have pushed a little too hard on this track.

What do you think about it? Yea or neigh?

HOUSEWIFE HOEDOWN: Episode 7 Is Here!

Video streaming by Ustream

Check it out people: it’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another episode of Housewife Hoedown (formerly known as the more generic “Off Script”). Flipit from TVgasm joins me yet again, and since there wasn’t much new in the Housewives universe, we spent our time talking about the latest casting rumors (Heidi Montag on RHOBH?), the latest unaired footage, and our picks of the best and worst gays on the franchise.

Keeping things interesting were our first ever calls — one from my brother (aww) and one from a lovely lady named Laura, who also goes by LAC on the Internets. Plus, in honor of rebranding the show as a hoedown, we all wore plaid. Toooooootally planned, yo.

Hope you like it, and remember you can see it live next week at 3:30 ET / 12:30 PST at Talk Media Networks

First Photo of Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher Emerges, Is Awesome

“I can be ANYONE.”

No, the picture above is not Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher. It’s just a pic from her youth. But if you want to see Meryl as the former British Prime Minister (as part of her role in The Irony Lady), check out the photo after the jump.

It’s pretty amazing.

Get ready for it.

Okay…

Here…

ADVENTURES IN DOMESTICITY: Moroccan Carrot Soup Edition

IMG_0641.jpg

Recently, I received yet another gift certificate from CSN Stores with the stipulation that whatever I purchase from the site I would then review. This time around I opted for a hand blender, which may seem excessive considering that I already have a food processor, a mini food processor, and a Magic Bullet (with a blender attachment). Here’s the thing though: I love making soup, and quite frequently, I must purée the ingredients. Call me lazy, but I really hate all the transferring to the food processor or the Magic Bullet and then back again. It’s just… annoying. Plus, since I use a big ol’ dutch oven, it’s very cumbersome to pour the soup contents out; so I must use a ladle, which takes an epically long time (at least in my head). Hence, I opted for an immersion blender that I could just insert into the soup and turn on.

So what to test this bad boy out on? Well, as it turns out, there’s a soup that I make more than any other soup, and I realized I’d never documented it here on the blog. What better way to introduce the amazing Moroccan Carrot Soup?

I started making this soup nearly a year ago. I’ve made it with chicken stock, with veggie stock, with butter, with olive oil, with yogurt, without yogurt. I’ve done it all. It’s the first soup that I feel like I know. It’s delicious, it’s healthy, and it’s supremely easy. But would the hand blender do the trick? Results after the jump…

‘Glee’ Winner Announced!

71RnTcoL6YL._AA1280_.jpg

About two weeks ago, I implored people to submit their favorite musical covers from YouTube in order to win Glee Season 2: Volume 1 on DVD. There have been some great responses, and after weeding through the videos (with an assist from my friend Meeshie), we finally have a winner.

Results after the jump…
