Fashion Week in Los Angeles wrapped up about a week ago, and while I didn’t get to hobnob with the trendy elite at Smashbox Studios (home to most of the big fashion shows in the city), I did head over to the BOXeight warehouse to check out a smaller runway show. To be honest, this was the first real fashion show I’d ever been to. Shocking, right? You’d think with my cutting edge Gap wardrobe that I’d have my finger firmly on the pulse of this world, but I regret to inform you that I am woefully disconnected from most sartorially-tinged extravaganzas.
Anyway, there weren’t really any stories from the fashion show, but I brought my camera anyway, hoping that maybe there’d be an errant Project Runway star flitting about (there weren’t). I did have three D-list sightings though. You’ll be very impressed, I’m sure.

The crowd before the show. We were all in one big warehouse on the fringes of South Central. I felt very edgy.

boxeight-3
The models walked entirely too fast for my camera to capture. Nevertheless, this collection was by Endovanera. It was sort of like the most drab thing I’d ever seen.

boxeight-4
The girls in the front row watch attentively. No word on whether or not they were sitting in Jill Zarin’s seats.

boxeight-5
After the show, cocktails outside. Did I mention the open absinthe bar? Sadly, I was driving and decided this would not be the time nor the place to lose my mental faculties.

boxeight-6
Oooh. An artistic shot of the runway. Followed by…

boxeight-7
…the obligatory dorky shot of the runway.

For the second show of the night, the designers drove in this sweet vintage car. The fashion world was atwitter.

boxeight-10
I kept a healthy distance from the car. Knowing my luck, I’d somehow scratch it with a button on my jeans.

The second fashion show was put on by Unif. For a while, I thought it was the brainchild of some Horatio Alger figure who had pulled himself out of the ‘hood through fashion. Then I discovered it was created by some skinny white guy. Kinda less fun.

boxeight-12
What’s this I see? A celebrity? Why, it’s none other than Rex Lee from Entourage!

boxeight-13
And who was Rex seated next to? Frankie Muniz! Night of a thousand stars…

boxeight-14
So in case you couldn’t tell, the whole theme of Unif’s line was Chulo Chic. Or at least, that’s what I deemed it as. It was actually pretty cool.

boxeight-15
An orgy of sauntering.

boxeight-16
After the show, more alcohol was consumed by all.

boxeight-17
FASHION!

The whole night was worth it for this photo. You may not recognize him, but the guy in the middle (not the fat Asian guy) is none other than MTV phenom Jesse Camp. When we tried to take a picture with him, literally all these other randoms jumped in as well. Jesse’s pretty much what you’d expect: shrill, loud, but generally friendly.

As for this photo, when I was taking it, the guy in the white stepped into frame. He then asked me to email him the pic, but I couldn’t remember his address. I think his name was Neal? Nir? Nune? I don’t know. If you’re out there, here’s the small version of your photo.

And that’s about it. Hopefully there will be similarly trendy and fashionable events like these for me to go to. A special thanks to my old school chum Peter Eaton Gurnz for putting the whole thing together.

  1. B-Side! I’M a GAP girl, too….nothin’ to be ashamed of there! I call it “clothes for almost any occasion”.
I love all the pics (with screencaps, of course!)The more pics the better!
I only wish you had partaken of absinthe (every time I hear that I think of Moulin Rouge!), if only for the lovely blog that would have come after that!

  2. who’s your friend with the “Fred” shirt on B? he has a Vince Vaughn vibe going on.

  3. I think you meant “Cholo” Chic, like from the barrio, ’cause “Chulo” means Cutie.
