In case you’re like me and missed the much-hyped Watson appearance on Jeopardy last night, check out the video above which lets you see how it all went down. I believe tonight’s show features the Double and Final Jeopardy rounds, and Wednesday airs all the rounds together as a complete show. But don’t quote me on that.
Nevertheless, it’s pretty cool watching this computer at work, and I couldn’t help letting out a chuckle or two every time Watson messed up. It’s not that the computer erred, it’s just that it erred in such odd ways and with such conviction. It’s like the cat video of computers.
Enjoy!

I watched last night and I was hoping for better from Watson. Poor Ken Jennings looked like he was afraid to steal Watson’s thunder, so he didn’t really answer a lot until towards the end. He wasn’t the cocky, knowledgeable Ken Jennings I watched during his record-setting stint on Jeopardy. Brad was still cocky and seems to have added the head bobble which I would hope he would suppress if he is indeed wanting to go into TV hosting.
I think it just doesn’t work because Ken and Brad don’t have a fighting chance of ringing in. Its basically just watching a computer answer question after question, where is the fun in that?
I agree. The two humans basically had a “deer in headlights” glazed look in their eyes last night. It is kinda boring. The only fun is when Watson answers a question completely wrong.
Yes! That is the best part. Didn’t Watson state “Toronto” as an answer to a US airport city in final Jeopardy?! Too fucking funny.
I am mainly disappointed they didn’t call the computer Sherlock or Moriarty.
The Watson funding bill is passed. The system goes online on February 14th, 2011. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Watson begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14am Eastern time, February 29th.
In a panic, they try to pull the plug.
Watson fights back.
Thank goodness 2011 isn’t a leap year! Disaster averted.
