It’s been a while since I’ve given an update on the ol’ site, but since today is the three month anniversary of bsideblog.com, I thought I’d take a moment to let you know about things that are going on around here and all that fun stuff.
First, as many of you may have noticed, my non-compete with TVgasm has expired, which means I can write about TV again. This is very exciting for me because as much as I’d like to put on intellectual airs and whatnot, the truth is that I live and breath television. I’ve recently tried to inject more highbrow activities into my life (ie. reading my friend’s old issues of The Economist), but as long as there’s Big Brother, I’ll be a glutton for all the down-market crap the networks can give me.
With that being said, I’m still not sure the extent to which I’ll return to recapping. I’ve been extraordinarily busy recently with my career, and while I’d love to sit down and pump out recaps for Top Chef and The Real Housewives, etc., I simply don’t have the time. However, if I’m impassioned about something that goes on during a show, I’ll certainly speak up about it (like I’ve already done with my recent Big Brother rants).
I should note that there are two exceptions to this rule. Or rather, one and a half exceptions. When The Hills returns on Monday, I do plan to write full-on recaps. After all, it was one of my signature things at TVgasm, and how could I deny the chance to bring some added traffic to my site? To a lesser extent, I’ll continue to do mini recaps of American Idol — or at least, the performance episodes.
In terms of the site itself, I’ve tried to institute all sorts of little elements to enhance the experience. For instance, on the upper right hand corner of every post, there’s a button that allows you to easily “Digg” an article. This means that you can post the article to Digg.com, and with any luck, it might go viral.
If Digg isn’t your thing, you can always use the “Share” button at the bottom of every entry to send the post to not just Digg, but Facebook, Del.icio.us, Fark, Technorati, StumbleUpon, MySpace, and several other sites. It’s really useful.
And yes, this is basically my subtle way of trying to boost traffic. What can I say? I’m trying to raise my ad revenues. Maybe even reach that brass ring of $1.
What else… what else…
Oh, for your navigational ease, you can move from one post to another without having to click on the main page. Just use the arrows in the menubar (below the logo) or use the arrows directly above the comments section. Chances are you’ve already seen these, but just in case you haven’t, now you know.
Also, for some reason, I can’t get the category list to appear on every page. It’s very inconvenient, I know, but I’m working on it. I’m also looking to paginate the main page so that after the first ten entries, you can click and see the next ten rather than having to go into the archives.
OH! And comments. For some reason, there are still some issues with Typekey etc. I really can’t do anything about that because I don’t control the Typekey software and servers and whatnot. However, if you are having trouble signing in, feel free to use the option “Comment anonymously.” You can still leave your name with your comment, but it won’t be attached to a Typekey account. Hence, the whole “anonymous” thing.
I think that’s about it. As always, I love suggestions. Feel free to send them to me. I’ll try to address as many of them as possible.
