Well, nothing snarky can be said about this. Watching Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris, sob her grief away was sort of like the most heartbreaking thing of all time. Sadness.

Obviously this needs a “death” and “sad” tag.
the family group hug destroyed me.
Ummm, not to be the callous fuck that I know I am, but seriously, wasn’t this just a teeny bit over the top?
I mean who died here? A guy who was pretty good at singing and dancing.
Sad, sure……but weren’t we just making fun of his plastic surgery and pedophelia like a month ago?
I never thought I would actually get choked up during MJ’s funeral…but watching his poor daughter sob was wrenching.
Regardless of how you felt about the man, his daughter loved him. SO sad.
I cried when she started sobbing while saying she loved him. It’s hard to imagine, but to her and her brothers he was a father and like she said to them he was the best daddy and that right there broke my cold heart. They’re so young too. Ok, enough, I don’t want to cry again.
I didn’t watch all of it but Brooke Shields made me cry and I outright sobbed when I saw the clip of Paris. I have been relatively jaded against all of the ‘whoopla’ but seeing that little girl ache for her daddy ws truly heartbreaking.
I didn’t watch the thing because I expected it to be at least 75% total schmaltz and inappropriate (those who watched – how is my rating?). But I saw the Paris clip and I couldn’t help but cry. Her adoration for her daddy and her desperate loss were nothing but heartbreaking. And it reminded me that none of us are (or will be) a perfect parent by a long shot, but our kiddos still, amazingly, cherish us (for the most part). I hope that family loves those kids as much as I am praying they do.
Joey Potter – I watched and you were spot on with the schmaltz. Usher being one of the cheesiest.
But the 25% real moments were excellent. Magic Johnson’s KFC story being one of the best.
hb
that moment alone is why the grandparent should not have custody of those children. correct me if i am wrong as i really don’t follow mj but didn’t he spend allot of energy/time keeping his kids out of the public eye? i seems to me their/her pain was exploited for public viewing, and i would guess there is more face time for the children on the horizon.
I only watched the last hour of it, but this part was truly heartbreaking. I’m just glad that they ushered her off the stage and didn’t leave her up there to grieve in front of millions. I feel that she really did want to say something to her father. She just couldn’t control her emotions when she did. Not that I would have expected her to be able to.
indy chick- maybe to be able to SEE the grieving face of his daughter will help people remember that he was a good father, no matter what else people though of him. Maybe that’s why his family chose to let them be seen at the memorial.
zoobabe- i agree. no matter how odd he appeared to the public eye, he was obviously a good father and his children obviously adored him. it was heartbreaking to watch Paris grieving and I hope we don’t see much more of the children. I would hate for them to be exploited, especially by Joe Jackson!
speaking of, thank god he didn’t try to promote his record label!
I kind of agree with indychick-I mean I don’t know if I agree the grandma shouldn’t get custody, but I did think it showed what it is like to be surrounded by *entertainers*.
I don’t want to say anything as fact, because I don’t know the whole story-maybe Paris REALLY wanted to speak at her father’s memorial.
But if not, I don’t think his children have ANY responsibility to show that Michael was a good father while they are at this memorial that has to seem at least a touch bizarre, if not just overwhelming.
i guess it was the fierce look of protection on Janet’s face during Paris’s turn at the mike that made me think it was not Paris’s idea to speak. at one point during Paris’s speech Janet’s upper lip totally disappears and she looks so disgusted and angry with the fact her niece’s grief is being put on stage for public viewing. having had a parent die,i understand the children’s pain, and really its not for public consumption.
To me, it looked like Janet asked Paris a few times if she was sure she wanted to speak. If you watch the right side of the screen where Janet and Paris are, during the previous speakers Paris fiddles with her purse, she puts a kleenex in it, fiddles with her necklace and seems to be preparing to speak. Then Janet leans over and says something to her and Paris nods. I agree that Janet did not agree with the decision but I think Paris wanted to do it.
