“OH REALLY?”
And it continues to grow. Today Bravo announced that it would be developing the fifth iteration of its hit Real Housewives franchise with the upcoming Real Housewives of DC. Details are scant, but rest assured that between all the “cultural events, political galas, gallery openings and fundraisers in Washington society,” there’ll be plenty of drama.
Personally, I thought Texas would be the next natural move for the series, but DC sounds rather perfect, especially because it returns us to the land of Old Money â€â€Ã‚ something that Orange County, New Jersey, and Atlanta sorely lack. I’ll be sure to post more details as they become available, but in the meantime, check out the press release after the jump…
BRAVO ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF
“THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF D.C.”NEW YORK, NY – May 26, 2009 – Today, Bravo announced that a spin-off of its hit docu-series franchise “The Real Housewives,” is in development, this time set in the influential metropolitan region of Washington, D.C. The announcement was made by Frances Berwick, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Bravo Media.
“We’re tapping personalities who are among Washington D.C.’s influential players, cultural connoisseurs, fashion sophisticates and philanthropic leaders – the people who rub elbows with the most prominent people in the country and easily move in the city’s diverse political and social circles,” said Berwick.
A place for power and politics, Bravo is scouting the D.C. area to identify the city’s alluring and discriminating residents, those women who have their pulse on the most important cultural events, political galas, gallery openings and fundraisers in Washington society. These leading members of D.C. society are in the know and comfortable discussing everything from the economy to high fashion. They are the talk of the town in the most powerful city in the world.
Bravo has tapped Half Yard Productions to develop this project.

I was born and raised in DC and there aren’t very many good looking women here. I am afraid that mostly they are going to find slightly overweight ladies, who think they are tens, but are really fives, in expensive sweat suits and yoga pants running their kids to soccer practice, being rude to people in the grocery store, and cutting people off in traffic while text messaging. DC might be a powerful city, but it is very boring. But we do have a lot of monied people here especially if they look for housewives in the Potomac, Great Falls and Bethesda areas. I just hope I will be able to recognize the landmarks or I could try to stalk the camera crew.
